Tutorial for Pilot Rest Assistant's Required Rest Calculator. Please contact us at codeburners@gmail.com if you need further assistance.
If your previous rest was not normal, you are now on reduced rest and your next rest period will be compensatory rest. If your previous rest was normal, your next rest period will have a required normal rest, a reduced rest limitation, and a required compensatory rest for the following rest period. Tap on the correct answer and proceed to the next step.
Since your previous rest was normal, your Required Rest depends on the scheduled flying time in your current shift and your next shift. Specifically, each landing in your NEXT shift has a "24 hour look-back window". The actual flight time in each of these look-back windows is what we are looking for. We will use the largest of them. If you know offhand it's "< 8", etc, you can simply tap the correct answer. This is also handy if you don't have time for a complete analysis but just need a ball park answer for the sake of reference.
The HELP diagram illustrates the concept of the 24 hour look-back window.
After tapping the number of hours in your 24 hour look-back window, your Required Rest for your next rest period is displayed
You can calculate the hours instead of estimating them.
First you will list each flight in your CURRENT duty period - then you will do the same for the next duty period.
Start by adjusting the dials to match the departure and arrival times for the first flight in your shift. Then press SET / EDIT to list it in the area below.
After you have set the first flight, you can tap the + button to add another flight.
Remember, a flight is not "set" until it is in the list below.
To edit a flight, turn the left most dial until the flight you want to edit is displayed. Adjust the times accordingly and tap SET / EDIT.
When you are finished entering all flights, press DONE.
Repeat for NEXT duty period, then tap DONE.
In this summary page, you can see your flights listed as entered, and your 24 hour look-back window is calculated. Tap APPLY to enter this result on the Required Rest Calculator page.
Your result is now transferred to the Required Rest Calculator page and your Required Rest is displayed.
If you answer NO to the first question, you are already on Reduced Rest, and you are wondering what your Compensatory Rest must be. This depends on your flights during your PREVIOUS shift and your CURRENT shift, and how many hours of rest you actually received in your previous rest period.
Again, you can calculate the exact 24 Hour Look-Back Window, using the same procedure as already illustrated. The only difference is that now you are entering flights for your PREVIOUS shift and your CURRENT shift.
You can calculate the rest you received, rather than estimate it. Simply tap the CALCULATE button (next to the rest question) and adjust the dials until they match the starting and ending times of your previous rest period.
Tap APPLY to bring the result to the previous page.
You are now returned to the Required Rest Calculator and your "actual rest received" has been entered.
